LINC: Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada


This program is for adult immigrants, convention refugees, and permanent residents who have not yet received Canadian Citizenship from Citizenship & Immigration Canada. LINC teaches English as a second language to newcomers with information to access employment, education and community services. Fanshawe College

Fanshawe offers language classes to international students from Level 2 (High Beginning) to Level 5 (Advanced Academic Preparation) as preparation for post-secondary education in Canada. ESL classes for landed immigrants and Canadian citizens are offered as part of the Language Stream of the General Arts and Science program (GAPS). Huron University College

Huron University College offers courses designed to improve the writing skills of international and exchange students who are enrolled at the school. Through its Writing Skills Centre, it also provides a multilingual component for students writing in other languages. An Activities Program focuses on introducing Canadian culture to international and exchange students as well as providing an informal and interesting atmosphere in which to mix with other Canadian students.

King’s University College

King’s provides credit writing courses that are specially tailored for ESL students. A variety of other services are offered to meet the writing, speaking, reading and listening needs of their international students. Academic, practical and cross-cultural issues are addressed through a variety of programs and services including counseling and student advisory services, the International Students’ Bridging Program and a Peer Connection program which offers various excursions and events throughout the year.

London International Academy

London Language Institute

London Language Institute offers both full and part time ESL programs through a 9-level curriculum that features small class sizes. The institute works closely with post secondary schools and provides university and college Academic Prep courses as well as TOEFL preparation. Winter and summer short term programs focus on introducing Canadian sights and activities to international students while working on English skills in the classroom. The Institute also offers a Business Program and, in addition, delivers ESL teacher training through the ACE TESOL Certificate Program.
